Twinning

Bruschal, Germany

Twinned with the town of Bruschal in Germany. The Twinning Partnership was signed in October 1979 and excellent links have been built up over the years. Long-held friendships have been established at individual, organisational and other levels. Delegations visit each other from time to time and the Friends of Bruchsal Society [and the Friends of Cwmbran, in Bruchsal] forge and encourage links at sporting, cultural and social levels. The Community Councils of Cwmbran and Croesyceiliog & Llanyrafon work together at a Civic level. From time to time Stadt Bruchsal organises a trade exhibition at which Cwmbran, as one of Bruchsal’s twin towns, has been represented.

In November members of the Friends of Cwmbran visited to celebrate Cwmbran's 75th Anniversary of becoming a New Town and also the 45th Anniversary of the twinning between Cwmbran and the City of  Bruchsal in Germany. Various events were held over the weekend including  concerts involving Bruchsal Mixed Police Choir  collaborating with the Harmonize and Croesyceiliog Choirs in musical events as part of the celebrations. These events were thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Members were pleased that the weekend of events, organised by the Friends of Bruchsal, Croesyceiliog Community Council  and Cwmbran Community Council, were all well attended and feedback has been extremely positive. All the events were attended by Bruchsal Dignitaries, including Bruchsal’s Oberburgermeister (Mayor). On the final day of their visit, a new Declaration was signed by all involved parties to re-declare and cement the commitments made to each other in the original twinning document.

It is hoped that representatives from the Friends of Bruchsal will return a visit in the near future.

Our new Bookshelter - Europaplatz

Last week we inaugurated the red telephone box, a gift from Cwmbran in the 1980s, as a new bookshelf on Europplatz. Foreign-language books can be placed there and also taken away. During the inauguration, the Lord Mayor reminded everyone once again of the town twinning with Cwmbran and how the telephone box came to Bruchsal. You can find this event also on Facebook under Stadt Bruchsal.
